On Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th June, Screen International hosted this two-day symposium on the future of the film industry in the UK. Professionals from all areas of the UK Film Industry, including producers, financiers, distributors and exhibitors, gathered at The Mayfair Theatre for a series of presentations and panel discussions on cutting edge, technology, models for production, distribution and exhibition and creativity in the rapidly changing digital world of cinema. Met Film School Director and feature film producer Jonny Persey chaired day one of the high profile event, which explored the new order of cinema in the digital world and included speakers from the European Audiovisual Observatory, Universal Home Entertainment, The National Film and Television School, Tin Pan Films, Dogwoof Pictures, Shorts International and Magic Lantern. The speakers provoked fascinating discussions about the future of cinema in the new digital world and inspired debates on the shifting platforms of distribution and marketing in this so-called ‘Age of Dialogue', which is rapidly changing the dynamic between filmmakers and the consumer. The presentations and panels gave great insight into the current climate as well as interesting predictions of how the future might look and the power the filmmaker and distributor have in shaping the future marketplace.
