BA (Hons) Post-Production
Course Overview:
Post-production - especially editing - is one of the most rewarding and creative stages of the filmmaking process. It is during this phase that the film is literally created from the thousands of ‘takes' and hard decisions are made about what remains ‘on the cutting room floor'. BA (Hons) Post Production is an intensive, two year programme which will provide students with an unparalleled level of experience at undergraduate level.
Learning Objectives:
- To learn the skills required by an employer looking for an Edit Assistant or Sound Edit Assistant and prepare for these real roles in the industry
- To develop a full range of filmmaking skills, from screenwriting to directing to editing, in order to understand the context of post production in the wider filmmaking process
- To acquire a critical appreciation of cinema and understand how editing and post-production techniques are applied within different genres of film, TV, and novel platforms
- To master advanced editing and understand all digital stages that a film passes through on its route from the shoot to the final deliverables in both the traditional and evolving digital worlds
- To appreciate the historical, cultural and aesthetic framework surrounding editing in order to develop a unique style and technique
Production Experience:
- Write, direct and edit one professionally graded short fiction film with the support of a professional Script Editor, Director of Photography and Editor
- Gain months of experience performing key roles such as Edit Assistant, Editor, Sound Editor, Sound Designer, Sound Mixer, Post-production Coordinators, Post-production supervisor, Compositor, and Motion Graphics Designer
- Benefit from the professional facilities of our sister company Met Film Post , which is in the process of relocating to Ealing Studios
- Receive the support of our course partners, two of Soho's largest facilities
- Learn at Ealing Studios and work alongside and with undergraduates in both traditional filmmaking and VFX
